The Neverending Story

"Ahhhhh!" is all I have to say. Well, not really. I unfortunately started to open my store in the most difficult economic time for start-up businesses. I haven't given up. I have everything ready to open, but so many banks are not funding loans for start-up retail stores and restaurants because with the gas prices etc. people are not spending money on "extra" things. What most bankers don't know, as I'm sure most of you would would attest to, is that scrapbooking supplies ARE necessities to MANY of us. Scrapbooking is an important activity in our lives no matter what our financial status happens to be. Plus, bankers have agreed that my business plan shows how Scrappywood would be a success. We need a big local place to buy our supplies, but even more importantly, a place where we can come together to crop and take classes with dozens of people. Frustrating, huh?

Feel free to email or respond to this blog with your thoughts. My future customers' comments can be very influential! If we want a local scrapbook store, we have to show the need and desire for one! You go girls...and some guys too!

I really hope that it comes together for you soon! There are lots of us who would rather buy locally, but are frustrated due to the lack of where to go!

I have been stalking your blog, waiting for news of your opening! There are so few stores around anymore and even fewer really good ones. We need a great place to shop and crop. Hoping to see this all come to fruition soon!!

I would love to buy locally. I'm a touchy/feely person. If I can't see it or hold it, I usually don't buy it. I can't wait til you open.

I agree with what's been said so far! I hope you get through all the red tape soon and I can't wait for you to open! Good luck!

Hi Patricia, You are right... "scrapbooking supplies ARE necessities...." and we REALLY need a place to meet people and crop together. I hope we will meet soon... I can't wait to walk the red carpet!!!

I am truly looking forward to having the store open. I have a big project (aren't they all?) that I'm anxious to get rolling, but have been waiting for your store to open. I've been asked to redo a scrapbook of original WWII letters and memorabilia so I hope things work out quickly for all our sakes!! :-)

Scrapbook supplies are a part of my monthly budget. It's either that or weekly therapy sessions. ;)Scrapbooking is much more fun. I am anxiously awaiting the opening of your store. I think in order to boost our economy we need to support our Mom and Pop stores. I am so done with the big chain store. Good luck opening up. I can't wait!!

I NEED a place to shop where I can find new items, unique items and new ideas. So open, open OPEN. Good Luck with everything.

I can't wait until you open so I can get the latest & greatest! The chains always have the same ole stuff! & not enough variety.

I cannot wait until you open ! I hope it is soon because when you do open the place is going to be swamped with people that have been waiting to shop! I don't know how much longer we can hold out.

I live in North Garland, but I'm fully prepared to use the gas to make trips to your store in Frisco. I allocate $100/month toward scrapbooking purchases. My money is piling up, so I'm really looking forward to your store opening!

I am ready and waiting too! Oh the anticipation! :)

I know this must be so frustrating trying to get the appropriate funding.

Maybe you can point out how well ReCollection's did in almost the exact same location.

We all know ReCollections did not shut down due to the lack of revenue.

Good luck Patricia. I know I speak for all of us when I say we are totally ready for the grand opening and stand beside you in this endeavor. :)

Oh, it is so nice to hear what's going on.
One reason I got to go in and out of Recollections so often was because it was close to some "men and boy" stores. My husband and son would agree to stop by with me because they could go into sports, pet stores nearby, etc., while I shopped. I don't have little kids, but it seems like location is a very big deal...fast food, coffee, kids' activities, fitness places, ballet--karate lessons, etc. Is there a chain bookstore, teacher store, gas station, etc. that needs to share space and be willing to help draw in the scrappers to their business? Like the gas stations and McDonalds, or Target and Starbucks do?

I have anxiously been awaiting the opening of your store! There are no places to go Fri/Sat nights to scrapbook anymore...I have little ones at home and cannot work on my books at home! I can't remember the last time I got anything done on my books! "OPEN, OPEN, OPEN...soon...PLEASE!!!!

I'm look forward to when you get the chance to open your store. Best wishes for things to look up.

Patricia... at this point you could open up a store in a storage unit and I think people would shop there! LOL! Regardless, of the rising gas prices, I will sacrifice going to the movies (which is absurdly expensive!)and other things in order to protect my scrapbooking budget! I hope things get better for you, I've got my fingers crossed!

I will be moving to the area in September and would love to talk with you about teaching. I know opening a business can be quite a challenge. However, this industry is continuing to grow regardless of what is happening in the economy. The need for a great store to shop and crop at is definitely there. All my best,
Cristin :)

We have been waiting for so long for your store to open. We check in regularly and drive the Frisco area hoping to see the store somewhere. We REALLY need a scrapbook store in the area. The stuff you find a Hobby Lobby and Michaels just isn't the same as what you find at a scrapbook store. Plus there is nowhere to crop with friends. I miss the girl's nights when we would crop and am going through withdrawl. Can't wait for you to open.

I moved to Frisco in June and was so excited about the potential of a new store. I heard that a few closed in the last 18 mos and I need a place to shop!

Top off my need with the fact that we had a house fire two weeks after moving in and I need to restock my scrap space. I have done some damage at Archivers while on vacation in Indiana and of course Hobby Lobby and Michaels have gotten some business as well. I would love to share my business with you as well. I wish you luck in getting this place open and I will be a regular customer I promise!

As a former Recollections INployee (Dallas location) I am so excited to hear about this store. It is so sad that so many of our stores have closed. While I do like finding deals online, I so miss the environment of a local store and walking into a store where people know me and say 'Oh, we just got this in and you'll love it." I miss the classes, I miss the crops...I miss it all. I wish you the very best of luck and I hope we all get to visit your store very soon!!
Hugs,
Jessi Gribbin

I can not agree more with what everyone is saying. We need a QUALITY store in this area more that I can even say. These "big box" craft stores just don't carry the up to date selection and have the customer service or crop facilities we are all looking for. Whenever I see my scrapbooking friends they are always asking me if I have heard anything from you about your store. I can't wait to tell them all when you finally get thru the red tape and open those doors! Keep your head up and keep us all informed thru your blog and website to any new information.

I live in NorthWest Fort Worth and I would drive monthly to your store. I so miss the variety of the non-chain stores. I hope to see you open soon.

I have been looking for a local scrabook store since Recollections closed and just found your blog today. I too hope this happens soon, I am tired of not finding really special supplies.

Please Please Please.....I miss the crops, the fun projects.... and 7 Gypsies PLEASE! I need a place to GO crop AWAY from my house. I have been totally dis-heartened with all the scrap places closing down. I may not go buy a new TV, but I will go spend $10 on new paper and what have you...(usually a lot more), tell that to the bank!

I am in the process of opening a scrapbooking store in Central, IL. I find your blog inspiring and it's good to know that I'm not the ONLY person trying to open a LSS during this huge downturn in the scrapbooking industry ;-) Keep us posted and feel free to contact me if you want to bounce ideas since we are in the same boat...just geographically separated ;-)

I would love a scrapbooking place around here again!! Have you looked into renting space in Frisco Marketplace?
